Tree of Life, Wendy Charlton
My wife, Wendy, is a weaver. This tapestry she wove is a favorite of mine. I like the circular tree design set against the colorful, patterned background.
Tree of Life, Tapestry, 10 x 12.5"
What's this tapestry about?
The Tree of Life is a symbol for how things are interrelated in a circular way and that has always intrigued me as an image.
Where did you make it?
I made it at my home in Fork Union, Virginia using a Mirrix Loom.
Does the finished work realize what you originally conceived? Were there any problems?
To some extent, yes, and to some extent no. I wanted the background to be more subtle with finer gradations in color, but I didn't have the fine gradations of yarn color that I would have liked. Also, I was trying to make the bottom edge straighter. But generally, I'm happy with the way it turned out and it sounds like my husband likes it, so that's good!
Why do you weave?
I love the way color interacts and the way you can blend color with yarn in ways that are different from other media.
