Shari Buelt, Tucked In at Montague Harbor

Beautiful, cool colors and reflections

Q&A with the Artist

What is this work about? Is it a depiction of a specific place?

This is a painting from one of our favorite anchorages in the Canadian Gulf Islands, Montague Harbour, on Galiano Island.

Where did you create it—on site or in the studio? How long did it take?

Almost every summer we head out on our sailboat for a month or more. I am always taking loads of photos to bring back with me and paint in my studio. I find myself so distracted while out cruising that trying to do a plein air painting is just an exercise in frustration. I love to do smaller paintings because I am able to create something beautiful to share in just one day.

What motivates you to paint and create images like this?

I love trying to capture the beauty that I am surrounded by and share that with other people. If my paintings bring a smile to your face, I’ve accomplished what I set out to do.

Thanks Shari!
